In like a lion!

Well, we may finally be saying goodbye to winter (no thanks to Punxy Phil) and hello to spring, but what a busy winter it’s been for Pack 192.

Despite the cold, the boys have been busy with winter adventures – from fun-filled den and pack meetings to braving the cold and snow on local hiking trails. “Be Prepared” and “Do Your Best” are our mottos, and the boys have certainly learned a lot through these chilly months.

Our pack celebrated Scout Sunday with St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in New Cumberland and then spent an afternoon in service at the Middwest Food Bank, where we filled hundreds of bags of cereal to help those in need.

Our winter culminated in our annual Pinewood Derby, where the racing was fast and the boys’ car designs were impressive! A big ‘Thank You!‘ to our friends atPack 89 in Enola for letting us race with them again this year.

Now we look forward to spring, with a ton of activities on the way – hiking, biking and camping are all on the menu as another fun year continues!

Fall Adventure – Shadows of 1864

As we move into fall and the start of a new scouting year, almost 20 scouts (and parents) traveled to Gettysburg to participate in the Shadows of 1864 Camporee. Along with several thousand scouts from across Pennsylvania and neighboring states, our scouts spent the day learning about the Civil War, with reenactors providing demonstrations of cannon and rifle fire, along with other living history demonstrations.

Tent camping was the game for the weekend over both Friday and Saturday nights (or scouts could just come for the day). We played games, did period crafts and generally, much fun was had. The highlight was the fireworks show which capped the weekend on Saturday night.

More to come, as we have a busy fall schedule ahead of us!

A summer of Adventure

Even though Cub Scouts follows the school year, Pack 192 stayed active throughout the summer with regular hikes and three opportunities for summer camp. Our scouts also marched in the annual Memorial Day Parade in New Cumberland, and helped plant flags on veterans graves in recognition of their service.

Our summer included the week long Twilight Camp as part of Pioneer Council, and two sessions of three-day, two-night summer camps at local Camp Tuckahoe near Dillsburg. In all cases, scouts got to participate in activities like BB gun, archery, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and, at Tuckahoe, swimming and canoeing.

We also closed the spring with a bike rodeo at St. Theresa’s, and then a group bike ride on the Heritage Trail near York. Scouts also had the opportunity to attend (and camp!) at a Senators baseball game – how cool is that?

A huge thank you as always to all our leaders, parents and volunteers! We could not do it without you!

After Busy Spring, Summer Adventure Awaits!

June is here and so it’s time to turn the page on what has been a busy spring for Cub Pack 192. We had new friends join us for adventures throughout the region – on our monthly hikes we climbed a mountain and explored local parks. We both day- and over-night camped for an excellent (even if a bit damp) Spring Shooting Sports event where scouts got to learn to use BB guns; slingshots and archery.

We hosted a bike derby to get everyone ready for the summer, and a few brave bikers even went out on the Heritage Trail in York for a six-mile bike ride over the hills and through the dells.

And we joined our community for New Cumberland’s annual Memorial Day Parade, which begins each year with a solemn ceremony to remind us of the sacrifices people have made for our nation.

Throughout all of this scouts have been meeting and working on their advancements, learning everything from how to use a knife to how to read maps, stay active and have a healthy diet. As always, a huge thank-you to all of the adults who make everything possible!

As we turn to summer we’ll continue to get outside and explore our world with hikes, bikes, tours of local organizations and the state Capitol, and camping opportunities throughout the summer.

Adventure Awaits!

Derby Days with Pack 192!

Thanks to our friends at Pack 89 and Pack 195, Cub Scouts with Pack 192 got to build and race their Pinewood Derby cars at two events this year!

Designed and built by the kids (with parental supervision) the boys came up with some brilliant and interesting cars that ran the gamut from F1 inspired designs to Sonic or Minecraft themed cars that just make you smile.

All of the boys worked hard on their cars, and their efforts really showed! We are so proud of our races, whether they came in first or last – just so long as everyone has fun!

Outdoor adventures and fall fun!

This was a busy fall for Cub Scouts in Pack 192! We joined our local scouting district (Pioneer) at the fall Scoutorama at Camp Hidden Valley, where the boys learned how to set up tents, shoot bb guns, archery fishing and other great activities!

We also enjoyed nightly campfires and – of course – s’mores!

Other activities this fall included our annual appearance in the New Cumberland Halloween Parade, we wrapped up our series of community tours with a (smelly) stop by the local waste water (sewer) treatment plant and of course continued our monthly hiking adventures with walks at Messiah University and a local park!

As always, a big thank you to the volunteers and parents who make it all possible. Here’s to more adventures in the year ahead!

Scouts Take ‘Aim’ at Summer Fun in 2024!

After a fun school year, Pack 192 rolled into summer with a busy schedule of events, camps and activities! In addition to our monthly hiking program, scouts participated in guided tours of the Pennsylvania State Capitol, the Capital Region Airport in New Cumberland and the Lower Allen Waste Water Treatment Plant.

During the summer we also had a number of scouts join us for Twilight Camp in July through the Pioneer District, and Pack 192 had one of the largest groups of scouts at the camp, where boys were able to learn about archery, BB guns, fishing, and participate in arts and crafts and STEM activities!

With summer winding down and school about to start the families of Pack 192 are looking forward to another year of scouting activities including marching in the annual Halloween Parade in October, monthly Pack and Den meetings, St. Therea’s Fall Fun Fest, more hiking opportunities and camping at Scoutarama!

Pack 192 is Turning 70!

Pack 192 was chartered to Saint Theresa Parish in the fall of 1952. Since that time we have been continuously serving the youth of the parish and New Cumberland. We are pleased to announce that the entire year of 2022 will be a celebration of this important milestone.

Pack 192 looks forward to continuing to serve our community well into the future. Our pack provides outdoor youth programs for boys in grades K-5. If you know of someone that is interested in joining have them reach out and join us for the fun and adventure of the outdoors.
